The world is dominated by coronavirus (COVID-19) at the moment, and attempts to stop the spread of the virus have consequences for everyone. Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten is in constant contact with the Veiligheidsregio Fryslân (responsible for safety in the region) and keeps a close eye on the recommendations issued by the public health authority RIVM. We will inform you of any changes via this page.

Extremely busy times for our Customer Service

At the moment, our Customer Service is very busy because of the impact of the coronavirus. Travelling to Ameland or Schiermonnikoog?

From 16 June, online booking will be mandatory for foot passengers and bicycles!

Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten is resuming its regular timetable on 1 June. However, the government has imposed two restrictions: fewer passengers are allowed on board (40% of the maximum capacity) and passengers aged 13 and over are required to wear a face mask.

Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten wants to maximise the number of visits to the islands and prevent travellers from being disappointed; all within the rules that apply. That is why online booking will be mandatory for all passengers from Tuesday 16 June. This applies to both outgoing and return journeys. This way, everyone knows where they stand.

Situation up to and including 15 June 2020

Until the new booking system is ready for use, tickets can only be purchased in the terminal before departure. Make sure you are on time. We advise you to be at the terminal at least 30 minutes before the ferry’s planned departure time, when the service desk will also open. If there are no seats available anymore on the desired crossing, you will be allocated a seat on one of the next departures. 

What will change from 16 June 2020?

In the coming weeks we will continue to work hard on perfecting our booking system. Booking online will not immediately work optimally for all target groups. However, we are doing everything we can to keep the islands accessible in the current situation, and we are counting on everyone’s understanding.

Face masks mandatory from 1 June 2020

With effect from 1 June 2020, our employees and passengers (13 years and older) will be required to wear a face mask for the duration of the journey from and to Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. Face masks have added value if it is not possible to keep a safe distance of 1.5 m or if it is not possible to check in advance whether everyone is healthy. This is the case when travelling to and from the islands. Face masks are mandatory on all our premises (with the exception of the parking lot), in buildings and on ships.

Passengers are responsible for purchasing their own face mask. For more information on the guidelines and what face mask should be worn, please refer to the information provided by the Dutch government.

Regular timetable from 1 June 2020 (update 26 June 2020)

With effect from 1 June 2020, the regular ferry and fast ferry services on the Ameland-Holwerd route and Lauwersoog-Schiermonnikoog route will once again operate according to the regular timetable (all with limited capacity).

From 1 June 2020, the water taxis will again be available for crossings on demand. Because of the corona measures, we can only transport two passengers at a time. 

Making reservations using the 'credit' of a previously cancelled reservation

Many cancelled reservations were converted into credit. Passengers can use this credit to make a new reservation by telephone or e-mail only. Please state the reservation number of your original reservation. You cannot use this credit afterwards on a new reservation made online.

These are extraordinary times and we are adjusting our rules and regulations accordingly. Consequently, our cancellation policy has recently been reviewed.

What are the best times to travel by ferry?

Especially during holiday periods, weekends and when the weather is nice, the morning departures to the islands and the late afternoon and evening departures from the islands are the busiest and they are the first to fill up. For these crossings, you run the greatest risk of having to wait a little longer. Keep this in mind, and try travelling at other times when possible, to avoid the crowds and to increase the chances of getting on board!
